Replacement of filter medium

Our service department provides replacement of filter medium of our filters and also of filters from other manufacturers. We keep basic spare parts for G&G filters in stock, the spare parts for service of the other manufacturers we usually provide within one to two weeks. With the SERVIS 24 service contract variant, all necessary material is stored in our stock or in the client’s stock. When demand for immediate service, we do not address the need for service material, but only the timeline of the technicians’ arrival to the client. What is the procedure for replacing the filter media

For new service cases, the service worker first performs an initial service inspection, where he gets acquainted with the type of filter unit being serviced, the type of filter elements, the material specifications of the filters and the extent of damage to the filter medium. The service department then orders the required type of filters – filter cartridges, filter cartridges, filter bags or filter hoses and agrees with the client on the exact date of service work.

How to change the filters

Service replacement of filters in the filter unit always depends on the specific type and manufacturer of the filter unit. Our service staff is familiar with the design of the vast majority of filters operated in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. For cartridge filters, the complete filter cartridges are always changed. In the case of bag, pocket or hose filter units, the textile filter elements are replaced, while the inner wire cage of the filter medium remains original as long as it is not damaged. After replacing the filters, the service worker will vacuum the dirt from the clean side of the filter unit as well as completely test the function of the regeneration valves and the function of the regeneration system. After completing the service exchange and testing the filter, the service repair is handed over to the client by signing in the service sheet.

Typical lifetime of filter media

The lifetime of the filter media is different for each type of filter units and suction applications. In general, the service life of a properly sized textile filter is approximately 18 000 to 25 000 operating hours before service is required. Cartridge filters have a service life of approximately 2 500 to 5 000 operating hours.

The lifetime of the filter media can be extended

As an example of a possible increase in filter life, we present a welding fume extraction system. Filters in the extraction of welding shops are often degraded by the greasy component of the extracted smoke. This grease clogs the pores of the filter element and causes air to pass through the filter medium and requires service replacement. The service life can be extended by installing a sorbent dosing station, which periodically adds sorbent to the suction line, which helps to dry the surface of the filter medium and contributes to better filter regenerability. The filter unit then operates at lower pressure losses, lower fan power consumption and thus increases the life of the filters by at least 20%. The service technician is able to assess the suitability of the installation of the sorbentization station or other similar measure directly at the client.
