Extraction during grinding and polishing

Abrasive dust extraction is one of the most common applications of air extraction and filtration systems. Product grinding is a part of most production, not only in mechanical engineering. In mechanical engineering and automotive, we most often apply the extraction of grinding mills for metal products, when welds are ground before painting. Grinding does not have to be just a dry process, where we extract dry dust particles, but grinding with cooling emulsion is often used in CNC machining.

In the production of building elements, the bearing surfaces of bricks and many other applications are ground. It is typical for all dry grinding processes that the ground material largely spreads into the working space of the grinding shop. An efficient extraction system ensures the removal of dust particles into the filter unit, and the protection of workers health.

Extraction of grinding mills

When we design a grinding machine extraction system, we always try to understand the client’s assortment and the dimensional layout of the grinding mill. The individual workplaces of the grinding shop usually differ in the size of the working space and it is necessary to determine the correct amounts of exhaust air for each workplace. The ideal solution for small grinding spaces is to use grinding exhaust tables, which ensure the dust extraction downwards into the worktop of the table and at the same time into to back part of the table, away from the grinder. The individual grinding tables are then connected to a central suction system and connected to a filter unit. Larger grinding spaces or grinding booths are ideal to solve by extraction from the floor with a filtered air in the upper part of the booth. Due to gravity, dust particles fall spontaneously to the floor, and by suction from the floor, the air in the grinding space is cleaned very quickly and efficiently. If it is not possible to install exhaust channels to the floor, it is possible to install exhaust hoods on the perimeter walls of the grinding space. We are using cartridge or textile filter units always equipped with automatic regeneration of the filter medium by compressed air. The choice between the cartridge and textile filter depends on the use of the grinding machine and the space options. Cartridge filters are less expensive, but you have to do the replacement of the filter medium more often,  specifically once for 5 000 operating hours. Textile filters are more expensive but have lower operating costs due to the longer life of the filter bags.

Extraction of polishers

We connect the extraction of polishers or polishing discs to the extraction attachment. Polishing machines are usually equipped with their own suction covers with a defined connection diameter. It often happens, that the extraction covers for polishers are inappropriately designed and undersized for the extraction performance. That is the reason, why we designed our own exhaust covers. Dust extracted from metal polishing contains residues of polishing paste and pieces of textile fibers of polishing wheels. This dust is characterized as explosive. We solve the extraction of polishing in the design for the extraction of explosive dust. The pipe must be smooth in the interior, without sharp points of rivets or self-tapping screws, to prevent trapping the polishing wheel fibers inside the pipe. Filter unit must be equipped with explosion protection elements. The filtered air is possible with using secondary stage of filtration return to the hall area.
